South Molton and Torrington 8 miles on B3227 Served by the Tarka line train to Umberleigh Station. Chittlehampton, Chittlehamholt and Atherington are only a couple of miles either way from the bridge, and all well worth a visit. All villages have facilities for food and drink. A little further away from Atherington is High Bickington, again lots of old charm, and possibly the most complete old English Devon village is Chulmleigh, some 8 miles away. Come to Umberleigh area and discover many hidden and undiscovered gems EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE AREA AROUND UMBERLEIGH, NORTH DEVON!! Most of Britain had terrible floods last year 2007, Umberleigh did NOT, there was no problems at all.Umberleigh was flooded, back in 2000, but since then the Environment Agency had widened the banks and more importantly, dredged the river and cleared the three span bridge. Two arches had been blocked for many decades, and now the high water goes down stream. Nature is unpredictable, but we in Umberleigh feel those floods are now a thing of the past.
